Agencia Estatal Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) provides expertise in design and testing of analog and mixed-signal integrated circuits, FPGAs, and software tools for hardware development. CSIC will develop the electronic interfaces for the memristive array, the spiking neural network for the neuromorphic chip and the PCB hosting the electronic components of the neuromorphic neuroprosthesis.

CSIC is Spain’s largest public research institution in Spain. CSIC pursues 4 main missions: (1) foster multidisciplinary scientific and technological research, (2) knowledge transfer to industry and society, (3) education and training of scientific and technical staff, (4) creation of Technology Based Companies. With 123 Institutes across Spain and a delegation in Brussels, CSIC counts 11000 employees, including 3800 researchers covering different areas of Science and Technology, from fundamental scientific research to complex technology development.

The Instituto de Microelectrónica de Sevilla (IMSE) hosts the IMSE Neuromorphic Group, which has been working on hardware neural systems and on spiking neural hardware since more than two decades now. The IMSE Neuromorphic Group has extensive experience in the development of object recognition hardware (both chips and FPGAs) for spiking retina sensors, mesh-based routing platforms for scalable modular Address-Event-Representation (AER) processing systems. The group works on theoretical and computational aspects on AER-based spiking signal processing for convolutional processing and have developed work towards the deployment of AER techniques to nanoscale devices for highly dense scalable smart systems.

Teresa Serrano-Gotarredona | PI

I am a researcher co-heading the IMSE Neuromorphic Group. I work in hardware implementations of artificial neural networks, including design of microchips and FPGA programming. I have designed bioinspired vision sensors and spiking neural networks. I also investigate learning hardware especially exploiting novel nanotechnologies as memristive devices.

Bernabé Linares-Barranco | PI

I am a researcher co-heading the IMSE Neuromorphic Group. I do research in hardware implementation of smart sensing and processing systems by taking inspiration from the architecture and signal processing of the brain. I have coordinated the first EU project achieving a hardware implementation of a bio inspired high-speed system closing the loop of sensing-processing and actuation.

Javad Farsani | PhD student

I am a PhD student working in the design of an artificial Spiking Neural Network that should be interconnected with the brain tissue in a functional system. I have experience in designing deep nanometer CMOS integrated circuit and systems, including ultra-low power clock-and-data recovery system for biomedical applications, and a Bulk-Input VCO-based Sigma-Delta ADCs with enhanced linearity.
